Looking for more specific instruction regarding our devices? Here are various materials and media to explain and walk you through the proper steps for their use. For the full steps to use of any of our devices, please refer to the package insert.

With more than 10 million procedures completed worldwide – both laparoscopic and open – HARMONIC Ultrasonic Surgical Devices are the leaders in advanced energy.

Our HARMONIC Surgical Instruments deliver precisely directed mechanical energy – with an ultrasonic, vibrating blade. A single device dissects, cuts, grasps, spot coagulates, and creates otomies. The result is a winning combination of performance, minimal thermal spread, and multifunctionality.

How it works:

  • Electrical energy is produced by a generator and passes into the hand piece.
  • Piezoelectric ceramic discs convert electrical energy into mechanical motion.
  • Mechanical motion is transferred to the shaft, where it is amplified by silicon nodes.
  • The blade vibrates longitudinally at 55,500 Hz, enabling tissue separation with minimal thermal transfer.

Tissue effect:

Low frequency ultrasonic energy creates cellular friction, causing amino acids in protein to unwind and reshape and hydrogen bonds to break down. The amino acids transform into a new protein shape, forming a sticky coagulum that seals vessels.
