Sealing lymphatics* and decreasing post-operative drainage.†, ‡
HARMONIC FOCUS® Curved Shears offer technology that helps decrease post-operative drainage†, ‡ and related complications.
You often operate on compromised patients, and even under the best circumstances, it can be hard for them to heal. You want to reduce drainage and to avoid lymphoceles and seromas, and HARMONIC FOCUS Curved Shears can help. It seals lymphatics, and it cuts, coagulates, grasps and dissects.
HARMONIC® Technology enables precision with minimal thermal damage for soft tissue incision, coagulation, skeletonization and mobilization and can be used to obtain exposure to vasculature in procedures including:
Groin Dissection:
Additional Procedures:
HARMONIC Technology:
Mechanical, not electrical energy
Minimal thermal tissue damage
You control the tissue effect
You control cutting and coagulating precision by varying the power level, blade edge, tissue tension, blade pressure and the time on tissue.
Our HARMONIC Devices have been used worldwide in more than 10 million surgical procedures in a variety of specialties, including peripheral vascular surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, urology, gynecology, head and neck surgery, and thoracic surgery and have been cited in over 590 clinical articles.
*Based on preclinical testing of lymphatic vessels up to and including 1 mm in diameter.1
† In a prospective study (n=70), use of HARMONIC was associated with fewer days with drain (2 days [HARMONIC] vs. 4 days [monopolar electrosurgery], p<0.001) and reduced cumulative serous drainage (200 +/- 130 mL [HARMONIC] vs. 450 +/- 230 mL [monopolar], p<0.05) after performing axillary dissection for breast cancer. HARMONIC WAVE® Open Shears (WAVE18S) were used in this study.110
‡ In a randomized prospective preliminary study (n=76), cumulative serous drainage from the axilla (407.6 +/- 136.1 ml ultrasound [HARMONIC] v. 492.4 +/- 153.4 ml [cold steel]) and the number of days with drain (5.1 +/- 1.3 days ultrasound v. 6.3 +/- 1.5 days) were significantly lower (P<0.05) with ultrasound [HARMONIC] (N=38) after performing axillary dissection. HARMONIC Coagulating Shears (CS14C) were used in this study.10
§ In a randomized prospective study of patients (n=92) undergoing axillary dissection for breast cancer, the total amount of drainage before drain removal significantly correlated with the development of seroma, p<0.01.111
