For many years, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. (EES) has been committed to supporting the education and training of new surgeons in the acquisition of minimally invasive skills. Awarding fellowships continues to be one of the primary ways in which that support is demonstrated. Historically, the fellowship application process has been managed through the educational grant process at EES. In recent years there has been increasing compliance restrictions placed on the process as well as heightened public scrutiny on Industry funding of educational grants. For these reasons, we have joined other industry partners in identifying an alternative route to continue our support of clinical fellowships. Effective with the 2011-2012 academic year, the application process, to include selection and funding of all MIS, Bariatric, Colorectal and Thoracic fellowships, will be managed through a singular grant to the Foundation for Surgical Fellowships.
The Foundation for Surgical Fellowships (FSF) was created to foster the development of high quality fellowships in advanced surgery. The Foundation will seek, receive and administer funds for this purpose as a (501(c)(3)) organization. Through a blinded application and review process, FSF will identify and distribute funds to qualified organizations based on criteria for excellence. The Fellowship Foundation will promote and support the continued availability of postgraduate surgical training opportunities of the highest quality. Applications and information can be found at the Foundation for Surgical Fellows website.
The application process for the 2012-2013 MIS, BARIATRIC, COLORECTAL AND THORACIC fellowships that are being funded through the Foundation for Surgical Fellowships is now closed. Applications and information can be found at the Foundation for Surgical Fellows website www.surgicalfellowships.org. Notifications made August 26, 2011.
The application process for the 2012-2013 GYN fellowships will be managed through a singular grant to the Foundation of the AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists). The application process closes July 1, 2011. Applications and information can be found by going to www.aagl.org and navigating to the Fellowship Section.
