Educational Grants

We believe education is one of the most important tools we can provide the healthcare community. So we're proud to support advancements in medical technology, as well as ongoing education for surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals through our educational grant program.

Requests are reviewed as they come into Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. (EES) by the Health Care Compliance department and an independent compliance leadership committee whose members are outside of the commercial sales and marketing areas of the company. Every grant we award is based on the merit of the educational program as reflected in the submission and alignment with Health Care Compliance policies. No awards are determined by taking into account the volume or value of any business that could be potentially generated by the grant sponsor. The grant sponsor is not obligated to purchase, use, recommend or arrange for the use of any EES product.*

Accredited Educational Activities (Continuing Medical Education – CME and Continuing Education - CE)

Accredited educational activities are CME/CE programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other appropriate accrediting body for continuing education credits. The accrediting body has responsibility for the program, program content and issuance of continuing medical education credits. Disclosure of support is required as per ACCME policies. Types of CME/CE activities supported by EES include: conference/symposia or courses with or without labs, educational speaker/dinner, grand rounds programs, or development of educational materials.

Accredited (CME/CE) programs require the following additional information:

  • Name, address and contact of the accrediting organization.
  • Accreditation statement indicating the program name, date, venue and number of credits provided or a printed brochure with accreditation disclosed.

Non-accredited Educational Activities

Non-accredited programs provide valuable education through an eligible organization; however, HCPs do not receive continuing medical education credits. Types of non-accredited activities supported by EES include: conference/symposia or courses with or without labs, educational speaker/dinner/grand rounds programs, development of educational materials, resident education or patient programs. The guidelines below are specific to non-accredited programs:

  • EES limits support to expenses directly related to the educational program including speaker honoraria and/or expenses, audio visual costs, development and dissemination of educational materials.
  • Activities not supported in a non-accredited program include ordinary operating expenses of the sponsoring organization, facility rental, and salary/travel expenses of sponsors employees or program participants.
  • Types of programs not supported include graduation dinners, holiday celebrations or reimbursement of expenses to a specific organization to prepare its residents for board qualifying examinations.
